Protecting Your Inheritance from Corruption: Morning Prayer for February 8, 2025

Protecting our inheritance in Christ—an incorruptible, undefiled, and eternal gift—requires vigilance in a world rife with spiritual, moral, and physical corruption. We must guard against anything that seeks to steal, distort, or destroy what God has given us. From our faith to our finances, from our spiritual gifts to our godly heritage, the enemy tirelessly works to corrupt what belongs to us. Yet, God calls us to walk in wisdom and discernment to safeguard the blessings He has entrusted to us.

1 Peter 1:4 reminds us that our inheritance is “kept in heaven for you, that can never perish, spoil, or fade.” Even while on earth, God expects us to walk in righteousness, ensuring that our inheritance—whether our faith, family, or purpose—remains untainted. This morning, as we pray, we commit ourselves to God’s protection, asking for His guidance in safeguarding all that He has given us.

Biblical Basis for Protecting Our Inheritance

  1. Proverbs 4:23“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”
Corruption often begins in the heart; thus, we must be diligent in protecting our minds and spirits from influences that can lead us astray.
  2. John 10:10“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”
The enemy seeks to corrupt and destroy, but Christ has given us the power to protect and preserve what belongs to us.
  3. 2 Corinthians 6:17“Therefore, come out from them and be separate, says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you.”
Holiness and separation from sin are key to preserving our divine inheritance.
  4. Ephesians 6:11“Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.”
Spiritual warfare is necessary to guard what is rightfully ours against corruption and attack.

Biblical Examples of Protecting God’s Inheritance

  1. Joseph in Egypt (Genesis 39:7-12)
Joseph safeguarded his inheritance of righteousness by refusing the advances of Potiphar’s wife, choosing purity over momentary pleasure.
  2. Nehemiah and the Rebuilding of Jerusalem (Nehemiah 4:14)
Nehemiah stood firm against opposition, ensuring the protection and restoration of Israel’s heritage despite external threats.
  3. Jesus Resisting the Devil (Matthew 4:1-11)
Jesus refused to be corrupted by Satan’s temptations, securing His divine mission and authority.
  4. Daniel’s Commitment to Purity (Daniel 1:8)
Daniel protected his spiritual inheritance by refusing to defile himself with the king’s food and maintaining his devotion to God.
