In the journey of faith, understanding the source of our wealth is paramount. Deuteronomy 8:18 reveals a profound truth to us: “But remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your ancestors, as it is today.” Here, “ability” or “power” in other translations, shows that our financial success isn’t solely by our strength. It is by the grace bestowed upon us by God.

The Power of God’s Blessing: Joseph started as a slave. He rose to the second in command of Egypt. He received the ability to interpret dreams and manage resources. This led to his wealth and the prosperity of a nation. This is seen in Genesis 41:39-41, where Pharaoh acknowledges Joseph’s divine wisdom.
Wisdom Beyond Measure: King Solomon asked for wisdom. As a result, he was granted discernment. He was also given “riches and honor” (1 Kings 3:13). This demonstrates that the power to create wealth includes the wisdom to govern and multiply resources.
Faithfulness in Little: The Parable of the Talents in Matthew 25:14-30 teaches that wealth creation is tied to our stewardship. It shows that those who manage little faithfully can handle more. Those who were faithful with little were given more. This illustrates that the power to create wealth involves responsible management. It also involves growth of what we’ve been entrusted with.
Diligence and Blessing: Proverbs 10:4 states, “Lazy hands make for poverty, but diligent hands bring wealth.” This suggests that the power God gives includes the discipline and work ethic necessary for financial success.
Prayer for the Power to Make Wealth:
Heavenly Father,
We come before You acknowledging that every good gift comes from You, including the power to generate wealth. Lord, we thank You for the covenant promise in Deuteronomy 8:18. In this promise, You assure us that Your hand equips us with the ability to prosper.
Bestow upon us, O God, the special grace that transforms ordinary efforts into extraordinary success. Like Joseph, give us wisdom in our dealings; like Solomon, grant us the discernment to make wise decisions. Let us be faithful stewards of what You’ve given, multiplying it for Your glory.
Lord, we pray for diligence in our work, creativity in our ideas, and favor in our endeavors. May Your Spirit guide us in financial wisdom. Let our wealth serve the advancement of Your kingdom and not our vanity.
Help us to see beyond monetary gain. Guide us to use this power for good. Help us alleviate poverty and support the church. Let us bless others as You have blessed us. Protect us from the love of money but instead, let our love for You guide our financial pursuits.
In Jesus’ name, we pray, Amen.
